We're having a baby!! I took a pregnancy test around 6:30 this morning. I left the test one the bathroom counter, then after 3 minutes or so, Matt and I went in to check it. From the doorway, I thought I only saw one line, but then Matt said, “There are two lines!” It is a faint line, but definitely there! Yes, we’re pregnant!! WOW! My estimated due date is August 6, 2003.

Well, I am 5 weeks along today. I made my first doctor’s appointment yesterday. I am set up for December 31 at 2:45 p.m. I wish I could have gotten in earlier, but with Christmas being during my 8th week, they couldn’t fit me in that week. The good thing is, by the 31st, we should see a heartbeat.

I talked to my friend Pamela today. I am supposed to go to lunch with her on Saturday with a few other girls. She said, “I don’t want you to hear this from anyone else…I’m pregnant.” I asked her when she was due. She said, “As far as I can calculate about August 9.” I said, “Oh, ok, about 3 days after me!” I couldn’t help myself, but to tell her!!

I had my ultrasound two days ago. Wow. It was so amazing to finally see the baby! The baby measured just right for how far along I am (10 weeks today). They changed my due date again, to August 7. We saw and heard the heartbeat, saw it wiggling all around, and got four pictures of the u/s. (Matt said the baby was “wiggling around like a little fish!”)

I looked at a Chinese Predictor chart and it said boy, but then I saw another one that said something about using your "lunar" age to figure it out and you were supposed to add (or subtract?) 9 months or something. Then it said girl. One of them is right!! Matt and I are hoping for a boy. (There are no boys in his family carrying on the family name except him.) But, lots of people are guessing girl. (Of course we will be happy with either, just healthy!) The doctor said we could find out at 18 weeks. I can't wait! Matt doesn't even want to discuss names until we know what it is!!

*On February 13 (15 weeks pregnant), I felt the baby move for the first time!

Our ultrasound is scheduled for March 19. We are so excited to find out! Matt and I have gone crazy getting stuff for the nursery. It's funny, at the beginning; I had a lot of people think I was having a girl. Now most people are guessing boy. Matt said he had no feeling either way, but just in the last week, he's said he's gotten the feeling that it's a boy. We'll know soon!! The baby moves around all the time now, too!

Calvin loves moving around! He is close to two pounds and is almost 15 inches long! I certainly feel bigger! Our trips to Aruba and Washington, DC were wonderful, but are probably the last plane trips we will take until Calvin is here!

Our recent doctor's appointment went very well. I took the glucose screening and passed with flying colors. My iron was a bit low and I need to take iron supplements a few times a week now.  Normally, women start going to the doctor every two weeks now, but because I am doing so well, I don't go back until June 12.  Matt and I start our Labor and Delivery class next week. We are really getting into the home stretch now!

June 5, 2003

Everyone has started looking at me funny when I tell them I have two months to go. People are starting to ask if I'm having twins. As far as we know, there's only one!  Our birthing classes are going well. We've been learning lots of different styles of dealing with the birth. We took a tour of the birthing center as well. The rooms are labor, delivery, and recovery rooms. They are private rooms and seem more like a living room than a room in the hospital! Our next appointment is next week. For everyone who thinks I'm huge, I'll be sure to ask the doctor if I'm measuring big!

Well, the doctor said I am measuring exactly where I should be. In fact, because everything continues to go so well, my next appointment isn't until July 10 (a month since my last one).
We had our baby shower last weekend. It was wonderful. We really enjoyed getting to see so many of our family and friends. We received some really wonderful gifts for Calvin, too!
Our birthing classes are over, so I guess we are prepared now for the big event! We are getting very excited for Calvin to make his grand appearance!

July 21, 2003

It has been a hectic month! We are into the new house (and LOVE it!) and just got our DSL connected again!
BIG news on the baby...literally.  At our weekly visit this past Thursday, the doctor did the routine checkup, then offered to let us have another ultrasound.  (We had asked for one a few weeks ago, just to be sure the head was down and that we are having a boy.) She said that if the ultrasound tech asked why she was asking for another to tell her that she thought the baby might be big. Then she said she really didn't think he was big, but this was so we could have it done.
Well, guess what? He is a BIG boy. The tech said right now he is 8 pounds, 15 ounces. (She said that is give or take a pound, but even at 8 pounds and two weeks to go--with a typical gain of a pound a week--that makes him a big baby!)
